Institute of Computer and Communications Security

Introduction

The Institute of Computer and Communications Security aims to cultivate top talents
in information security practices and research.
We are dedicated to nurturing future leadership in information security that will
become the backbone of cybersecurity research, industry development, and national
security.

Educational Objectives

  • Cultivate knowledge in computer and communications security
  • Bridge information security practices and ensure societal impacts
  • Attract talent from diverse fields and promote interdisciplinary research

Overview

To align with the Ministry of Science and Technology's Information Security Talent
Cultivation Program and the Ministry of Education’s Information Security Curriculum
Project, the College of Computer Science at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung
University has, many years ago, started investing resources in the development of
information security-related research and education. It established the Information
Security Teaching Laboratory and launched related courses in information security.

In April 2005, in cooperation with the Taiwan Information Security Center (TWISC),
the university set up the Central TWISC@NCTU Teaching and Research Center.
In December 2016, to foster advanced information security talents, the university
pioneered the Hacker College, mainly planned by the College of Computer Science.
The college focuses on technical capabilities in cybersecurity, practical technical
exercises, case analysis of attacks and defenses, and application platform operations.

In 2020, TWISC@NYCU was further elevated to a university-level center.

By integrating the resources of TWISC@NYCU, Hacker College, and the National
Defense Information and Electronic Technology Center, the information security
curriculum established by the college has become the most comprehensive among
universities and colleges in Taiwan. It covers everything from fundamental
knowledge to advanced techniques and includes both software and hardware security.

Highlights

Strong Faculty Team

  • Top domestic and international scholars and industry experts are recruited to provide
students with the most cutting-edge information security knowledge and professional
guidance. Faculty and students jointly explore theories and practical aspects of
cybersecurity, promoting in-depth and innovative academic research.
  • Practice-Oriented Approach

We emphasize a balance between theory and practice, offering a rich and diverse
learning environment and laboratory facilities. Students not only gain a solid
theoretical foundation but also engage in real case analysis and solution discussions,
developing problem-solving abilities.

  • International Exchange

We actively promote collaborations and exchanges with leading international
cybersecurity institutions, providing students with international learning opportunities
to broaden their global vision and networks. Students have the chance to attend international academic conferences, exchange visits, and overseas internships,
enhancing professional knowledge and cross-cultural communication skills.

  • In Tune with the Job Market

We design courses according to market demands to cultivate cybersecurity
professionals with strong industry competitiveness. We work closely with industry
partners to provide students with employment consulting, internship opportunities,
and career development support, helping them transition smoothly into the workforce.

  • Social Responsibility

With a mission to serve society, we actively participate in the formulation and
implementation of national cybersecurity policies, contributing to strengthening
national cybersecurity capabilities. We also value contributions to society by engaging
in public welfare activities related to information security and promoting the
dissemination and awareness of cybersecurity knowledge.
