As midsummer arrives, looking back over the past year, the College of Computer Science has continued to deliver outstanding achievements in teaching, research, talent cultivation, and industry-academic collaboration. As the nation's very first Department of Computer Science, we have accompanied the growth of Taiwan's IT industry every step of the way—standing at the forefront of technological advancement from the early days of vacuum tube computers to today's artificial intelligence era. Facing the rapid rise of AI, I firmly believe that AI is not a competitor to computer scientists, but rather the fruits of continuous innovation within computer science. Only talents equipped with critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving capabilities can guide the development of AI and master the future amid transformation.
Deepening Excellence: Faculty Research Achievements Hit the International Stage
The College of Computer Science continues to forge ahead toward becoming an "Impactful College." This year, several of our faculty members received prestigious academic honors. Professor Jyh-Cheng Chen was awarded the NSTC 2025 Merit Research Fellow Award, highlighting his extraordinary achievements over years of dedicated research. Professor Wen-Chih Peng received the NSTC 2025 Outstanding Research Award; his research on "Multidimensional Spatiotemporal Time-Series Data Analysis" and "AI-Driven Precision Sports Science" has successfully applied AI to sports technology. Additionally, Assistant Professor Yu-Chih Chen, Assistant Professor Dennis Wang, Assistant Professor Lo Pang-Yun Ting, and Assistant Professor Yu-Lin Wei were awarded the Ministry of Education's 2026 Yushan Young Scholar grants, continuously injecting international R&D momentum into the college and demonstrating our competitiveness across artificial intelligence, computer architecture, cybersecurity, and interdisciplinary applications.
Talent Cultivation: Moving from Research Awards to the World Stage
Our students' research achievements are equally a source of immense pride. Yi-Hsin Chen, advised by Professor Wen-Hsiao Peng, won the IEEE Taipei Section 2025 Doctoral Dissertation Award, while Lin Che-Wei and Liu Chun-Chien received the Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering (CIEE) 2025 Young Author Paper Award, showcasing the solid results of our talent cultivation. Furthermore, numerous student papers were accepted by top-tier international conferences worldwide, including NeurIPS, CVPR, ICRA, and ACL. Covering fields such as machine learning, computer vision, robotics, autonomous driving, natural language processing, and smart healthcare, these works allow the world to witness the innovative power and international impact of NYCU computer science talent.
Interdisciplinary Innovation: Crafting a New Layout for Smart Healthcare
In response to the growing trend of smart healthcare, the College of Computer Science and the School of Medicine are jointly promoting the establishment of the Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Medical Computing. By integrating AI with medical expertise, we aim to cultivate interdisciplinary talents who possess both clinical understanding and algorithm development capabilities—practicing the vision of "from lab to bedside" and promoting the real-world application of AI technology in healthcare.
Industry-Academic Collaboration: Building AI Practice and Innovative Teaching
In terms of education, we have completed the construction of the AI & Interaction Specialty Classroom, creating an experimental space for AI and human-computer interaction (HCI). We are also pushing forward capstone practical courses in AI and HCI, as well as AI-integrated software projects. These initiatives encourage students to make effective use of AI tools while nurturing their critical thinking, problem analysis, and verification abilities—building core competencies for the future.
In the face of a rapidly changing technological era, we do not fear change; rather, we look forward to defining the future within this AI wave. Let us maintain our passion, dare to innovate, and join hands to pioneer the next brand-new milestone for the College of Computer Science.
