Published twice per year, this periodical, as a bridge between faculty, students, alumni, parents and friends of the college, is dedicated to the latest research updates, including personnel changes, international collaboration, faculty & students honors, etc., in order to assist readers to keep update of the latest developments of the College of Computer Science (CCS) and encourage mutual interaction.
Personnel Changes
- Dr. Shuo-Han Chen, Dr. Chun-Feng Wu, and Dr. Yu-Lun Liu have been promoted to Associate Professor at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, effective February 1st, 2026.
- Dr. Lo Pang-Yun Ting has joined the Department of Computer Science as a faculty member, effective February 1st, 2026, and Dr. Harry Wai Ho Wong has joined the department, effective May 20th, 2026. We warmly welcome both professors to our department.
- Prof. Jung-Hong Chuang will retire in August 2026. Prof. Chuang's research areas include computer graphics, virtual/augmented reality, data visualization and analysis, and geometric and solid modeling. He has made outstanding contributions to the college's academic and research development and has inspired and mentored numerous students throughout his distinguished career.
- Prof. Yen-Yu Lin will serve as the Associate Dean of the College, and Director Chun-Rong Huang will concurrently serve as the Director of the Cross-Campus Cooperation Promotion Office, effective August 2026.
International Collaboration
- Professor John C. S. Lui from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) gave a lecture at our department on November 19, 2025. The topic was "Quantum Internet: The Final Frontier."
- Professor J. Stephen Downie from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), USA, gave a lecture at our college on November 26, 2025. The topic was "Creating Data and Tools for Open Cultural Analysis Activities: TORCHLITE and Beyond."
- Professor Bohumil Kolar from the Technical University of Liberec (TUL), Czech Republic, gave a lecture at our department on December 5, 2025. The topic was "Applied ML/AI Projects with Focus on a CV platform."
- Professor Akihiro Nakao from The University of Tokyo (UTokyo), Japan, gave a lecture at our college on December 9, 2025. The topic was "Network–AI Convergence: Communication Empowers AI, AI Transforms Communication."
- Professor Kwan-Liu Ma from the University of California, Davis (UC Davis), USA, gave a lecture at our college on December 10, 2025. The topic was "AI x VIS Research Highlights and Future Perspectives."
- Professor Falko Dressler from the Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin), Germany, gave a lecture at our department on December 10, 2025. The topic was "Towards 6G Edge Computing for Resilient Edge-AI."
- Professor Ashutosh Sabharwal from Rice University, USA, gave a lecture at our department on December 12, 2025. The topic was "Near-Ground Precipitation Sensing for Next-generation Wireless Networks."
- Dr. Yosuke Aragane from NTT Corporation, Japan, gave a lecture at our college on December 16, 2025. The topic was "IOWN – Optical Powered Next-gen IT Infrastructure for the Sustainable Society."
- Dr. Jos Stam, a world-renowned expert in computer graphics and simulation, visited our university and gave a lecture on December 19, 2025. The topic was "Reversibility in Simulation and Machine Learning."
- Mr. Kuang-Huei Lee from Google DeepMind gave a lecture at our department on June 22, 2026. The topic was "On Why LLMs are General Problem Solvers and the Path to Physical World."
- Professor Sabarish Babu from Texas A&M University, USA, gave a lecture at our department on June 22, 2026. The topic was "Examining the Roles of Embodiment and Theory of Mind in Shaping User Perception of LLM-Driven Embodied Conversational Agents."
Faculty Honors
- Dr. Ping-Chun Hsieh received the 2025 K. T. Li Young Researcher Award from the Institute of Information and Computing Machinery (IICM).
- Dr. Wei-Chen Chiu received the 2025 K. T. Li Rock Award from the Institute of Information and Computing Machinery (IICM).
- Dr. Wen-Chih Peng received the 2025 (114th Academic Year) Outstanding Research Award from the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC).
- Dr. Yu-Chih Chen and Dr. Dennis Wang were selected as 2026 (115th Academic Year) Yushan Young Scholars by the Ministry of Education.
- Dr. Yih-Lang Li was selected as an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Computer-Aided Design of Integrated Circuits and Systems (TCAD).
- Dr. Meng-Hsun Tsai received the IT Matters Faculty Award.
- Dr. Jyh-Cheng Chen received the 2025 (114th Academic Year) Merit Research Fellow Award from the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC).
- Dr. Shuo-Han Chen received the Best Paper Award at ACM RACS 2025.
- Dr. Ping-Chun Hsieh received the 3rd Outstanding Contribution Award for Young Information Scholars.
- Dr. Vincent S. Tseng received the 32nd TECO Award.
- Dr. Shiuhpyng Shieh was named an IEEE Life Fellow.
Student Honors
- Students Ping-Lun Lee and Yun-Ching Kao, guided by Professors Yu-Chee Tseng and Cheng-Kuan Lin, won First Place in the Few-Shot Localization of Private Objects track at the 2026 CVPR VizWiz Grand Challenge Workshop.
- Student Shou-En Wu, guided by Professor Li-Hsing Yen, received the Honorable Mention in the Master's Thesis category of the 2025 IICM Thesis Awards from the Institute of Information and Computing Machinery.
- Student Ming-Huang Hsieh, guided by Professor Chi-Yu Li, received the Honorable Mention in the Master's Thesis category of the 2025 IICM Thesis Awards from the Institute of Information and Computing Machinery.
- Student Chen-Pin Yang, guided by Professor Tsung-Tai Yeh, received the Honorable Mention in the Master's Thesis category of the 2025 IICM Thesis Awards from the Institute of Information and Computing Machinery.
