Speech 1Business Transformation with Blockchain

SpeakerProf. Dusit Niyato

(Computer Science and Engineering , Nanyang Technological University, Singapore)

Abstract:

This presentation focuses on the business adoption and transformation based on blockchain technology. First, some important features of blockchain are reviewed. Then, the blockchain business and monetization models will be presented. Examples of businesses that leverage the benefits of blockchain are given. Then, the presentation gives business case studies of blockchain in supply chain and payments in which different design approaches of the systems and blockchain adoptions are described and compared. The recommendations and major considerations of using the blockchain technology are also highlighted. Next, some research studies to enhance the business models of blockchain are presented.

Biography:

Dusit Niyato is currently a professor in the School of Computer Science and Engineering and, by courtesy, School of Physical & Mathematical Sciences, at the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He received B.E. from King Mongkuk’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), Thailand in 1999 and Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Manitoba, Canada in 2008. He has published more than 380 technical papers in the area of wireless and mobile networking, and is an inventor of four US and German patents. He has authored four books including "Game Theory in Wireless and Communication Networks: Theory, Models, and Applications" with Cambridge University Press. He won the Best Young Researcher Award of IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) Asia Pacific (AP) and The 2011 IEEE Communications Society Fred W. Ellersick Prize Paper Award. Currently, he is serving as a senior editor of IEEE Wireless Communications Letter, an area editor of IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications (Radio Management and Multiple Access), an area editor of IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials (Network and Service Management and Green Communication), an editor of IEEE Transactions on Communications, an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, and IEEE Transactions on Cognitive Communications and Networking. He was a guest editor of IEEE Journal on Selected Areas on Communications. He was a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Communications Society for 2016-2017. He was named the 2017, 2018 highly cited researcher in computer science. He is a Fellow of IEEE.

Speech 2Stochastic Blockchain for IoT Data Integrity

Speaker: Dr. Yu-Jia Chen(National Chiao Tung University)

Abstract:

Versatile Internet of Things (IoT) applications have the potential to benefit our daily lives, but raise serious security concerns. However, the existing blockchain scheme cannot be directly applied to IoT nodes with limited computing and network resources. In this talk, we will introduce a new type of blockchain technique called stochastic blockchain to protect the IoT data. In the stochastic blockchain, the cooperative nodes are randomly selected, thereby introducing uncertainty to the attacker. Comparative results will be provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the stochastic blockchain.

Biography:

Yu-Jia Chen received the B.S. degree and Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan, in 2010 and 2015, respectively. He is currently a postdoctoral fellow in National Chiao Tung University and an adjunct assistant professor at the department of communication engineering in National Central University. His research interests include Internet of Things, software defined networks (SDN), and network security. Dr. Chen has published more than 30 articles in peer-reviewed journal and conference papers. He is holding three US patent and three ROC patent.
