• 演講題目：Recent Trends in the Marketplace for Patents.

• Abstract:  Patents are an increasingly common way for inventors to try to monetize their new ideas.  In recent history, there has been a developing marketplace for the buying, selling and licensing of patents.  In this talk, I will review the basics of patent law, describe the marketplace for patents, and then describe recent trends in that marketplace.  I will give some attention specifically to universities and their technology licensing offices.

• Bio:  Mike Farn is a partner in the Intellectual Property Group at Fenwick & West LLP. Mike’s day job is to develop, acquire and manage patent portfolios; and to monetize these portfolios and the underlying technology through commercial transactions.  Before becoming a lawyer, Mike worked at M.I.T./Lincoln Laboratory, where his job was to invent new optical technologies and then transfer these technologies to private corporations for commercialization.  Mike went to Stanford for both his graduate engineering work and his law degree.
