In response, the Department of Computer Science at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) will host a grand unveiling ceremony for its newly renovated "AI & Interaction Specialty Classroom" during the "Alumni Homecoming" event on April 11. This renovation aims to break those spatial constraints, revitalizing classroom ED305—once restricted by fixed seating—into a versatile innovation hub for hands-on experimentation and immersive experiences. cacaFly stated that to support the department's R&D in AI and robotics, the space was specifically designed to simulate a real-world home environment. This allows students to move beyond digital simulations and develop smart home or smart care applications in a lifelike setting, effectively bridging the gap between academic research and daily life.
High-Tech Infrastructure for Next-Gen Robotics
The redesigned classroom showcases significant technical foresight. To accommodate emerging courses in Robotics, Humanoid, and Drones, the interior features a fully open, flexible layout. This provides ample space for robot navigation and drone maneuvers, solving a major pain point of traditional classrooms. Key technical features include:
- High-Specification Power & Networking: Supports simultaneous operation of multiple computing devices and sensors.
- Multimodal Experimental Environment: Integrated with motion capture, VR/AR, and human-computer interaction (HCI) sensing systems.
Curriculum Innovation and Interdisciplinary Synergy
The launch of this space has directly catalyzed curriculum reform. The Department of Computer Science plans to introduce the "Physical AI" course to this facility in the 2025 academic year, followed by "AI Capstone and Practice" in the second semester. Furthermore:
- HCI specialists will design capstone courses and collaborate with the university's ICT Workshop to offer micro-credit courses.
- Cross-disciplinary outreach: The space is open to applications from the Colleges of Electrical Engineering, Medicine, and Humanities, encouraging innovative "sparks" across different professional fields.
A National Resource for AI Education
The impact of this classroom extends far beyond the NYCU campus. According to the lead coordinator of the "Taiwan AI Course Oracle (TAIC)", there are plans to integrate the "Physical AI" course into the national alliance system by the 2026 academic year. This will establish the AI & Interaction Specialty Classroom as a demonstrative educational resource shared nationwide.
