Cloud.  Big Data.  Internet of Things.  These are the voyages of Skywatch Inc.  Its three year outlook: to explore strange new applications, to seek out new forms of user scenarios, to boldly go where no video surveillance company has gone before.

It is the best of times, and it is the worst of times.  It is the age of hardware, it is the age of software.  It is the epoch of vertical integration, it is the epoch of open platform.  And in this talk I will also discuss, from personal experiences, how one may wish to go from industry to academia and vice versa, and how doing a startup is similar to  doing research and raising kids.

簡介:

Wei-Chao Chen is a co-founder at Skywatch Innovation, a company that provides cloud-based video products and solutions.  He is also an adjunct faculty member at the National Taiwan University.  His research interests involve graphics hardware, computational photography, augmented reality, and user interfaces.  Dr. Chen was a senior research scientist in Nokia Research Center at Palo Alto between 2007-2009, and a 3D Graphics Architect in NVIDIA between 2002-2006.  Dr. Chen received his MS in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University (1996), and MS (2001) and PhD (2002) in Computer Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
