【講題大綱】
Despite decades of progress, optical lens design remains a difficult problem, constrained by complex specifications and heavy reliance on manual fine-tuning. Commercial tools typically rely on gradient-based local optimization, which converges quickly but struggles with non-smooth variables and disjoint feasible regions. At Largan Precision’s Optical Computing Laboratory, we are developing a modernized workflow that integrates population-based evolutionary algorithms with distributed computing. We enable gradient-free exploration to improve robustness against local optima and infeasible regions. Early results show better convergence, providing designers with broader solution spaces. However, this is just a small step. Looking ahead, we want to explore AI-driven predictive models and other optimization strategies as pathways toward scalable, intelligent lens design for emerging fields such as AR/VR, automotive, and medical imaging.
