Overview

Rigorous Educational Programs

Based upon the ACM/IEEE-CS Joint Computing Curriculum, the Department devised a comprehensive undergraduate curriculum featuring a large number of technical elective courses, senior project topics, and overseas study opportunities. It also pays special attention to hands-on practice, programming skill development, and creativity incubation. The entire curriculum is divided into three programs with a specific concentration. The Network Engineering Program includes topics such as broadband networks, wireless communication, mobile computing, and network security. The Multimedia Engineering Program covers multimedia signal processing, 3D virtual reality, computer graphics, games, and digital contents. The Information Engineering Program embodies computer architecture, embedded hardware/software systems, System-on-Chip (SoC) design, and software engineering.

In addition to the regular classes, the Department also arranges exchange programs with top-notch education and research institutes and distinguished lectures offered by world-renowned scholars. All these are a part of the holistic training offered to our students as the preparation for their careers as global IT professionals.

Accelerated Advanced Studies

The Department encourages students to challenge themselves to complete their degrees faster than the normal requirement. Under these programs, students may receive both their bachelor¡¦s and master¡¦s degrees within five years and their doctorates in seven years.

Excellent Career Prospects

By creating three professional programs with distinct emphases on Networking, Multimedia and Information Engineering, the Department aims at providing our students with technical knowledge and professional skills that match the demands of the Taiwanese IT industry. The Department is conveniently located on the NCTU Hsinchu Campus adjacent to the famous Hsinchu Science Park, which holds more than 50% market share of the global IC foundry during the past decade. Throughout its history, the CSIE Department has maintained close ties with industrial vendors: many founders of prominent Taiwanese IT companies were the alumni of the Department, and the graduates from the Department have always been highly sought after by both local and international firms. In recent years, most of our graduates have found their careers in the industries of personal computers/PDAs, mobile phones, computer games, communication networks, IC design, and digital content. A significant portion of them also chose to pursue doctoral studies immediately or in later stages of their careers.
